Fire Sprinkler Designer
About the Role
This role reports to the Branch Manager and is located in Austin, Dallas, Houston or San Antonio, TX. AFS is looking for a Fire Sprinkler Designer for our new construction department for immediate opportunities. The preferred candidate will manage all logistical and customer service aspects of the fire sprinkler system for commercial, residential, industrial, and multi-family buildings.
What you’ll do (day to day)
- Read and interpret contract documents, including all disciplines of construction drawings and specifications.
- Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Review construction contract documents.
- Make sure change orders/change estimates are completed in timely manner.
- Design “For Construction” fire protection sprinkler systems, including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, and deluge systems, with accuracy and detail to enable field installation.
- Create system designs using specialized fire sprinkler layout software (AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD).
- Perform basic hydraulic calculations.
- Submit design plans to Local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) for approval and obtain permits as required.
- Create material lists and fabrication reports for projects.
- Conduct site surveys, communicate with field personnel, coordinate systems with all building trades, and participate in BIM modeling and coordination meetings.
Required Education and Experience
- 2+ years AutoSPRINK and/or HydraCAD.
- 2+ years of experience in the desired trade.
- General MS Office skills – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
- Excellent communicator, self-motivated individual with great organizational skills.
- Decision making ability and leadership skills.
- Time management and organization skills.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen.Normal work hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00AM – 4:00PM.
- A commercial sprinkler design systems background or a basic level of comfort.
- Candidates must pass a drug screen.
- Candidates must be able to show proof of work eligibility.
