Length of assignment is 12 months (July 1 – June 30) each year.
This is an administrative position, and there is no minimum, maximum or regular schedule. Office hours are suggested to be 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Any administrator is expected to be available to parents, Head of School and the Board of Trustees as needed.
Salary is based upon experience, qualifications and merit, and is paid in semi-monthly installments.
Fringe benefits include premium paid for employee’s group health and hospitalization insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, social security, and eligibility for annuity plan participation after one year’s service.
Holidays include those approved by the Board of Trustees for a 12-month staff employee. Occasional weekend or evening work will be required. A four-week paid vacation is to be taken during the summer months.
Sick leave, personal business, and absence benefits are the same as teachers’, with twelve (12) days sick leave allowed each year.
The Principal is the chief instructional officer of his/her school and responsible for the oversight and pursuit of academic success of his/her students.
The Principal is responsible for assigning students to homerooms.
The Principal is responsible for enforcing all academic policies. Any exception to an academic policy must be approved by the Principal and HOS upon petition of the student and/or parent.
The Principal is responsible for preparing individual class schedule offerings.
The Principal may recommend admission or rejection of students based upon academic considerations (final decision of admission or rejection is made by the Admissions Committee).
The Principal is responsible for remediation programs as needed.
The Principal is responsible for conducting vertical team meetings to align instruction across grade levels.
The Principal is responsible for the instructional quality and content delivered in the organized curriculum and all extra-curricular activities.
The Principal interviews all candidates for his/her faculty and recommends them to the Head of School for employment.
The Principal supervises all of his/her teachers. He/she is responsible for observations, workshops, conferences, and constructive evaluation with the purpose of improving teacher’s instructional skills. He/she has the responsibility of recommending re-election, probation, or non-renewal of contract. He/she is responsible for recommending termination of teachers whose instructional skills routinely do not meet FBA standards for teaching and/or by not meeting the standards set forth in the mission and philosophy statements.
The Principal is responsible for planning, budgeting, and providing needed instructional materials for teachers.
The Principal is responsible for seeing that every teacher includes the “essential elements” in each course he/she teaches, that the prescribed grading system is followed by each teacher, that the “essential elements” are evaluated for mastery, that each teacher uses all prescribed teaching techniques and follows all reporting policies with accuracy.
The Principal is responsible for providing substitute teachers as needed. He/she evaluates substitute teachers’ work and is responsible for seeing that they receive adequate lesson plans and materials. He/she observes substitute teachers as they conduct class.
The Principal is responsible for monitoring attendance of his/her teachers. He/she gives specific approval for a teacher to miss any class on school or personal business. He/she monitors teachers leaving school during the day. Any teacher must receive approval to leave campus and must sign in/out.
The Principal is responsible for providing opportunities for the spiritual growth of teachers under his/her supervision.
The Principal assigns all teachers to duties, including classes, homerooms, sponsorships, lunchroom duty, carpool duty, early morning duty, etc.
The Principal works through his/her staff of departmental chairpersons in accomplishing units of purpose and high quality instruction in each academic discipline. The departmental faculties, under the Principal’s discretion, recommend textbooks for adoption, set departmental goals, coordinate projects, curriculum alignment, programs, etc.
The Principal is responsible for textbook inventory, storage, issuance, return and for preparing orders for new textbooks and workbooks.
The Principal is responsible for supervising the student attendance system and enforcing class attendance rules.
The Principal, in conjunction with the classroom teacher, is responsible for enforcing rules of good conduct. He/she sets up a network of assistants, using all teachers; learns of major violation and most variations of school rules; is skilled at establishing guilt or innocence; and punishes misconduct with the parents’ approval if possible or without parents’ approval if necessary.
Teachers are trained to be the “eyes and ears” of the Principal; they are required to follow the written policies; and they are made accountable for failure to render the necessary assistance required by the policy.
The Principal is responsible for working with parents cooperatively to improve the school’s disciplinary level; informs parents by repeatedly telephoning or arranging conferences and tactfully, but firmly, enlisting their support; is polite to all, but is not required or expected to be verbally abused.
The Principal may recommend admission or rejection of student applicants based on previous records of conduct.
Extra-Curricular Activities Responsibilities
The Principal supervises all extra-curricular activities and must give approval for all calendar dates and times of field trips, parties, as well as all student activities.
The Principal approves all fund-raising activities under the guidance of the Head of School and Director of Advancement.
The Principal is responsible for the proper conduct of all activities officially sponsored or participated in by FBA students. The Principal is responsible for the conduct of the students and employees who are present at any school activity.
The Principal is in positive charge and control of all school trips. If teachers and parents also participate as sponsors or tour members, they must obey school rules and are under the supervision of the Principal, as well as the students.
The Principal creates a positive climate for student achievement and proper behavior through “Happy Principal Visits” and “Students of the Month” type programs.
The Principal is responsible for providing opportunities for the spiritual growth of students and teachers. He/she is to maintain the necessary environment that effectively presents Jesus Christ as Savior. By role model and careful programing, the Principal will cultivate the spiritual growth of each student.
The Principal may speak at some chapel and assembly programs, helping to portray Christian values and morals.
The Principal makes himself/herself available and actively seeks to have one-on-one conferences with many students, using every opportunity to present Christ. He/she cultivates relationships with students, becoming an “arm’s distance” friend of as many students as possible. He/she learns their names and something of their family.
Conferences with teachers, students and parents should be conducted in the clear knowledge of Christ’s presence. The Savior’s teachers, invitations, and promises should impact every conference.
The Principal confers with each teacher about his/her church membership and activities; each person should be cultivated so that he/she can be helped to grow spiritually.
Severely ill children and parents should receive a personal visit from the Chaplain (or the Principal if no Chaplain available) in the home or hospital. Upon occasion, the Principal will counsel with teachers and parents in times of marital stress or death of a family member.
The Principal will encourage prayer groups among students, parents, and teachers.
The Principal will be active in a local church that is aligned with and supportive of the FBA Mission and Philosophy.
Public Relations Responsibilities
The Principal should be the most visible school administrator before the parents of his/her students.
The Principal presides at all school-sponsored programs at which parents and/or students are in attendance.
The Principal plans or sees that an appropriate scenario is outlined in advance for every school presentation.
The Principal is responsible for working with the Head of School in coordinating and completing all accreditation projects.
The Principal writes articles for publication in the school website, newsletter and other publications as needed.
The Principal meets with prospective parents and others interested in FBA.
The Principal represents FBA in several professional associations.
The Principal interviews prospective students and explains the results of all admission testing’s and evaluation.
The Principal plans and coordinates all planning for PreK4/5 promotion and 4th grade promotion.
The Principal assists in planning and coordinating school wide events as needed and assigned by HOS.
Candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a valid teaching certificate.
Preferred candidates will hold a Master’s degree in Education Administration from an accredited institution.
Preferred candidates will have Primary/Lower School Principal experience, ideally in an independent school and demonstrated a relational ability to collaborate with faculty, parents and students.
